Enabling you to achieve excellence

“We hear what our previous members who went on to become mentors have to say…”

I joined AYA 2 years ago and I have worked as a communications and content lead.

AYA has given me opportunities to grow my leadership skills and helped me build my confidence career wise.

I have had opportunities tailored to my career aspirations such as attending a summer camp for Journalists in Italy, where I got to learn about how to correctly report news regarding refugees and asylum seekers due to the negative representation and stereotypes portrayed by the mainstream media.

I’m looking forward to my future.

Being a member of the team was a great experience because I was fortunate enough to meet so many bright individuals with a great future ahead. Witnessing their development as they learnt valuable life lessons and matured into young adults was always my favourite part of being a mentor because for me, I joined AYA because I wanted to help me a difference in the world so seeing impact being made was always a blessing.

My main highlights from AYA were all the workshops that were hosted for the young people because even for me they were learning moments and there are so many valuable things that I now apply in my everyday life thanks to my experience with the African Youth Arise.

I work as an Independent Sexual Violence Advocate for children and young people. Alongside my job I also have an editorial business: @thewriteaid and I run a ministry called @TwentyFourFive_.  I have always been passionate about empowering young people, and was voted in as Member of the UK Youth Parliament at age 15. This motivated me to became an AYA mentor and Strategist in 2017 as growing up a Black British person I never felt like there were any spaces outside of church for people like me or to prepare me for life after school.

AYA is important because it helps empower young people by giving them access to successful people from the British African people.

Through AYA, I have made connections that have helped me secure an internships in the legal sector, which resulted in me landing a graduate job straight after finishing my Law degree
