Gangs Drugs and County Lines Project

Gangs Drugs and County Lines Project

Funded by Northamptonshire Community Foundation.

AYA is conscious that BAMEs are disproportionality in the Criminal Justice System in England and Wales.

We have been approached by young people and parents to run a project that develops personal, social and civic responsibilities by educating young people to understand the rule of law and democracy. In particular awareness of their rights and responsibilities in a legal and democratic context. The project will help promote peace and justice and build reliance on institutions that uphold the law.

We believe through educating and having an open dialogue with young people will help them become empowered, build reliance and understand their rights and help ensure they are able to deal with issues that may arise in a professional and structured manner.

AYA’s ambition is also to get young people excited and to think about taking up careers in the field of law, law enforcement and participate in democracy. We have a seen an increase in a number of young people within our community lured into joining gang activity and used in the supply chain of supplying illegal substances resulting into some disappearing from homes for a number of days or weeks even.

We will deliver the project for 6 months and we intend to deliver workshops on a bio weekly basis however in the summer months we will look to create peer support group to be held on the weekly basis and organise fun practical activities such as bowling, cooking, arts and crafts, creative writing, drumming, sewing, gardening
