Joanna Mwansa is a Communications Officer for a charity helping refugees and asylum seekers, responsible for communicating the organisation’s vision through multimedia platforms. She is a passionate storyteller, photographer, documentary filmmaker, and author.
Getting involved with AYA is such a great privilege because she gets to see the young people have the opportunities and the guidance she did not have growing up. Joanna is glad to be able to help AYA document its journey and communicate its impact within the community with key stakeholders.
AYA has given her opportunities to grow her leadership skills and helped build her confidence career wise. Joanna has had opportunities tailored to her career aspirations such as attending a summer camp for Journalists in Italy, where she got to learn about how to correctly report news regarding refugees and asylum seekers due to the negative representation and stereotypes portrayed by the mainstream media.
