Empowerment Programme

Our empowerment programme is designed to help young people in the following areas:

UNDERSTANDING SELF

Empowering young people with the knowledge and understanding of who they are, their history and what it means to them.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT

Providing young people with opportunities to develop their interpersonal and transferrable skills.

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS

Highlighting the importance of building successful relationships, both personally and professionally, while respecting different cultural values.

MAXIMISING POTENTIAL

Enabling young people to reach their full potential by giving them the tools they need to do so.

ENCOURAGING CREATIVITY

Enabling young people to reach their full potential by giving them the tools they need to do so.

We believe knowledge and understanding is key to their progression. There are certain areas we feel are vital to preparing our young people for the challenges they may face. With that in mind, we have created an Empowerment Programme which is a six-month programme of workshops covering the following areas:

FINANCIAL LITERACY

Learning essential financial skills including opening and using a bank account, budgeting and managing finances, education on how to keep your money safe, and awareness of scams and how to avoid falling victim to one.

DEALING WITH THE POLICE

We teach our members how to interact with law enforcement effectively.

COMMUNICATING WITH CONFIDENCE

Effective communication is an essential life skill. We explore different methods of communication and how to conduct yourself in a confident manner.

IDENTIFYING UNTAPPED TALENT IN THE WORKPLACE

Offering access and expertise to organisations who work towards uncovering untapped talent to enable them to diversify their workforce and an opportunity for our young people to learn and understand some of the barriers black employees face when entering and advancing in the world of work.

GOAL SETTING

Developing a personal action plan in order to motivate you to achieve your short and long term goals.

DRUG AWARENESS

Effective drug awareness is important to prepare our members for the influences they may face.

WELLBEING AND RESILIENCE TOOLS

Taking care of your physical and mental wellbeing is an essential skill that improves happiness, health and productivity. We explore what this means and how to take care of yourself.

MENTAL HEALTH

We provide our members with information about taking care of their mental health, recognising when they may need further support and how they can support others may be struggling with their mental wellbeing

UNDERSTANDING PERSONAL IDENTITY

Your identity is something that gives you a sense of attachment or ownership. This could be your beliefs, values, ethnicity, hobbies and more.

HERITAGE

We explore the background of where our young people are from and what it means to them.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT

In this part of the programme we look at ways to enhance employment prospects and steps towards achieving a desired career.

DECISION MAKING

How do you make good decisions? What affects your ability to make good decisions? We dive into the art of decision making.

SEXUAL HEALTH

We aim to provide the knowledge and skills to help our young people stay safe and healthy.
